Minimum Requirements High degree of initiative and creativity for solving problems Demonstrated career interest in energy, economic and policy analysis Master's degree in engineering, economics or a related technical field, or Bachelor's degree in engineering, economics, or related technical field plus two years' energy-related work experience Strong quantitative, analytical, and statistical skills Ability to write and communicate technical analyses clearly and concisely Very high proficiency in Microsoft Excel Proficiency in Python, Analytica or statistical software such as SAS, R, or Stata a plus Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Power Point Ability to work independently or within a team Desire to work in a dynamic office environment with 30-45 other staff Compensation E3 provides competitive compensation that is commensurate with experience and performance. To get started, please begin by clicking the green "apply now" button above.  The E3 Internship Program Our Internship Program is designed to provide an opportunity for top students to work on emerging energy topics alongside our staff of industry experts. Master’s and Ph.D. candidates in science and engineering, economics, business, and policy are all encouraged to apply.  The program is highly selective.  Ideal candidates will combine enthusiasm for their topics, academic excellence, and relevant work experience. We require a minimum commitment of two to three months for the internship, but beginning and end dates are flexible and can be tailored to individual situations. Successful applicants will work with E3 experts on a range of topics over the course of the internship.  Interns will also contribute to active E3 projects.  The Program is designed to: Provide students with the opportunity to work in a professional consulting atmosphere in which their research can be put into immediate practice; Provide students with an opportunity to develop a research “deliverable” that they can use as the basis of future research, publications, and applications; Provide E3 with an opportunity to work with top students who may be interested in consulting careers after graduation. Statement of Research Interest In your cover letter, please provide us with a statement of no more than two paragraphs describing a potential internship research project.  Describe the research question, why you think it is important, and, at a high level, how you would address it.  To provide context, we have listed some potential topic areas below, but applicants are encouraged to come up with their own topics.  Your research statement will help us to match you with an internship project or projects.  Some interns may elect to develop an independent research product, but most will contribute to ongoing consulting work.  The mentor will be the primary point of contact to work with the intern, and will collaborate on a successful plan prior to starting the internship. Research topics that are of interest for us include: Long-term pathways for greenhouse gas reductions in California, the U.S., China, or India Achieving deep energy efficiency savings Renewable integration in the Western U.S. and Eastern U.S. Wholesale market designs for renewable energy Future utility business models Business models for energy storage providers Business models and charging infrastructure for electric vehicles Distribution resource planning Rate designs for transportation and building electrification Innovations in transmission planning and evaluation Stipend Interns earn a stipend of $3,000 per month.   E3 Location and Logistics E3 is located in San Francisco’s Financial District near BART and Muni transportation. Interns are expected to work during E3’s regular business hours, which are 9am to 5pm.
